PDF is the preferred document delivery format:

Adobe Acrobat/Distiller/PDF – to version 9.42 (pdf 1.5)
You may use the Adobe predefined PDF setting for “High Quality Print” or create a PDF/X-3 compliant PDF for best results. In any case, all fonts should be embedded, all colors used should be either Black and/or the designated spot color(s), and no objects in the document should be in RGB. If the document is set up properly in its creator application, there will be no need to convert to CMYK during the PDF conversion.

Other files that may be accepted are as follows:

QuarkXPress – up to version 8.5
Via “Collect for Output” – Heeding applicable copyright restrictions, include all fonts (Type 1 PostScript fonts should include both printer and screen fonts) and linked artwork.

Adobe InDesign – up to version 7 (CS5)
Via “Package” – Heeding applicable copyright restrictions, include all fonts and linked artwork.

Adobe PageMaker – versions 6.0 to 7.x (CS5)
Via “Save for Service Provider” – Heeding applicable copyright restrictions, include all fonts and linked artwork.

Adobe Illustrator – up to version 15 (CS5)
Embed or outline any used fonts. However, if type is expected to be edited, do not convert to outline. Use the CMYK Document Color Mode in Illustrator when building your document.

Adobe Photoshop – up to version 12 (CS5)
For best results, supply both the unflattened, multi-layer file as a native Photoshop Document or PSD file and the other as a flattened TIFF file.

CorelDRAW – version 10
If you are using CorelDRAW X3, save your file in the CorelDRAW 10 format for best results. Other options include saving your CorelDRAW document as a Illustrator CS2, EPS, or PDF file.

Note:
If you are concerned about text flow issues and maintaining the appearance of documents that do not have fonts embedded or included, save the document as a PDF file or convert the type to outlines.

Avoid character styling or appling font attributes such as bold, italic, outline or shadow attributes. Unexpected behavior may result when printed, such as bolding an already bold font, double italicizing fonts or not printing at all. Use only fonts that contain such attributes within the font family.

Common graphic file formats suitable for print include: TIFF, JPEG, EPS, and PDF.
We can work with just about any other graphic file including, but not limited to: PNG, BMP, WMF, GIF, and PICT files.

Vector-oriented logos and other artwork containing color should be created with the proper spot color desired and tagged as such, not CMYK. Bitmapped or raster images (TIFF, JPEG, etc.) used for logos and artwork that contain text and/or other fine details should have a minimum resolution of 300-pixels-per-inch/dots-per-inch at the desired printing dimensions, with 600 to 800-ppi/dpi being the ideal resolutions for quality printing and manageable file size. The optimal resolution for raster images that contain varying levels of gray or color (i.e. photograph) is 266-ppi or twice the line screen frequency. All halftone screens, including raster images, are imaged at 133-lpi (lines-per-inch) for printing on our presses.

Avoid anamorphic scaling of photographs (different scaling in height and width) and other artwork where aspect ratio must be maintained. Do not use GIF formats or graphics from web pages if optimal quality is desired.

All Others:
Documents created in other applications not listed above or as incompatible versions, should be exported or saved into a acceptable format.

Documents created in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Publisher should be exported as a PDF to maintain original document appearance and insure consistent and predictable printing results.* It is also good practice to provide the original Microsoft file in case modifications to the original are needed to meet our printing specifications.

* Copy flow and page layout arrangement in Microsoft programs depend greatly on the printer installed and targeted on the user’s system. Transferring such documents to a different system with different printer specifications will change the page layout and copy placement.

Media delivery:
E-mail attachments may be zipped/compressed using WinZip, PKZip, Stuffit, and most other compression-type software. Total size of all attachments per e-mail should be under 5 MB (megabytes). Files larger than 5 MB should be delivered via optical media (CD-R or DVD) or USB drive.
